The Electronic Textual Cultures Lab (ETCL) at the University of Victoria seeks an engaged and organised self-starter for the position of Coordinator (Operations), an on-campus full-time role.

About us: The Electronic Textual Cultures Lab (ETCL; is a Humanities lab based in the Digital Scholarship Commons at the University of Victoria Libraries. The ETCL is a hub for digital humanities and open scholarship activities across the UVic campus, from coast-to-coast, and around the world. With a mandate including research, teaching, and service activities, the ETCL acts as an intellectual centre for the activities of some twenty faculty, staff, and students as well as visiting scholars (over 300 since 2004). ETCL members work closely with research centres, libraries, academic departments, and projects locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Through a series of highly collaborative relationships, the ETCL’s international community comprises over 500 researchers. The ETCL is coordinated by the Canadian Social Knowledge Institute at UVic.

Experience & Qualifications
The successful candidate should have:

  • A university degree, in a related field
  • Documented experience in administration and project management
  • Competency in standard office software, including word processing suites as well as with basic content management systems (e.g. WordPress)
  • Event planning and hosting experience with exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while meeting deadlines, tracking details, planning ahead, effectively prioritizing tasks, and communicating with the team
  • Experience working in and proclivity for working in a team environment

This position will be based in the Electronic Textual Cultures Lab at the University of Victoria. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can work both independently and with a consultative research team.

Primary Position Duties
Duties of the Coordinator (Operations) include the following:

  • Leading by positive example
  • Providing operational, managerial, and supervisory support to ensure the smooth operation of the facility
  • Developing and implementing strategy
  • Planning, managing and assigning tasks, duties, budgets and financial management, expenditures, and grant administration
  • Coordinating and facilitating positive professional relationships across researchers, partners, constituency, and pertinent UVic administrative and support units
  • Coordinating lab events
  • Documenting lab activities and overseeing the maintenance of the ETCL, INKE, and other lab websites (in collaboration with team members)
  • Regularly meeting with team members and maintaining close communication with the Director and Assistant Director on lab activities
  • Other related duties as assigned

The position is anticipated to begin on 1 July 2024 (with some flexibility here), and is in the form of an annual, renewable contract. Salary for this position is at U Victoria rates and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
