Members of the ETCL team, Graham Jensen, Sajib Ghosh, Archie To, and Ray Siemens have recently published an article “Open Infrastructure and the Threat of ‘Vanishing’ Journals” exploring a pressing issue in the digital humanities landscape: the fragility of open-access research infrastructures.

The article highlights the growing risk that humanities and social sciences research may disappear due to fragile digital infrastructures, limited funding, and commercial pressures. It shows how open, community-driven approaches such as HSS Commons in collaboration with Iter Canada can help preserve and republish vulnerable scholarship at scale. At the same time, it emphasizes both the promise and the ongoing challenges of sustaining accessible and resilient open knowledge systems.
