The Electronic Textual Cultures Lab (ETCL; etcl.uvic.ca) at the University of Victoria is looking for a candidate to join our team as a Communications Coordinator. As a candidate for this position, you are an organized, self-motivated, natural manager and project planner who takes initiative under direction. You are experienced with print and electronic communications, including social media and its effective use in professional and academic contexts. Beyond this, you:
- understand the value of the humanities, libraries, and archives of all kinds;
- have good facility with computers and can carry out academic computation and the basic tenets of the digital humanities;
- know what it means to be engaged in innovative work within larger structures;
- have a passion for learning new things as your interests and work focus provide exposure and opportunity;
- share your work and engage in the work of others in electronic environments, including on social media in a professional context;
- are a team player, and support a positive work environment;
- have excellent written communication skills;
- have documented professional experience in the areas above;
- want to join a dynamic environment in which you can make a difference, drawing on your experience with operations, research and research facilitation, and outreach/engagement.
Responsibilities include:
- carrying out the ETCL communications plan across various online platforms;
- planning, creating and posting relevant content for the ETCL’s social media initiatives;
- monitoring analytics related to those social media initiatives;
- responding to comments and questions received in person and via email and social media accounts;
- identifying and engaging with other similar social media accounts in order to increase exposure.
This part-time (4-5 hours a week) position will run until July 2018. Salary for this position is competitive in the local academic market and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

About the ETCL: The Electronic Textual Cultures Lab (ETCL) engages in cross-disciplinary study of the past, present, and future of textual communication, and is a hub for digital humanities activities across the University of Victoria campus and beyond. A digital humanities lab with research, teaching, and service mandates, the ETCL is an intellectual centre for the activities of some 20 local faculty, staff, students, and visiting scholars (over 60 since inception), who work closely with research centres, libraries, academic departments, and projects locally and in the larger community. Through a series of highly collaborative relationships, ETCL’s international research community comprises over 300 researchers. The ETCL organizes the annual Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI; dhsi.org), which will welcome over 850 participants in 2018, and supports the activities of the multi-disciplinary Implementing New Knowledge Environments (INKE; inke.ca) Partnership, involving over 40 researchers and consultants, 50 graduate research assistants, 5 staff members, 20 postdoctoral fellows, and 30 partners and associates.
