An interdisciplinary research project on campus seeks a part-time (typically 10-15 hours per week) U Victoria research assistant with technology-oriented interests and qualifications in humanities research, writing, and digital humanities activities–as well as event planning experience–for a limited term.

Specific duties may include one or more of the following:

  • Researching existing projects and platforms within the area of open scholarship;
  • Drafting project documentation and publications;
  • Assisting in planning and participating in project meetings and consultations;
  • Assisting with planning the Digital Humanities Summer Institute and providing operational assistance throughout the event (first two weeks of June);
  • Other related duties as assigned

Required experience and qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a related Undergraduate or Graduate program;
  • Humanities-based research experience;
  • Competency in standard word processing suites as well as with basic content management systems (e.g. WordPress) and social media tools (e.g. Hootsuite);
  • Event planning experience with exceptional organizational and communication skills;
  • Experience working in and proclivity for working in a team environment

This position will be based in the Electronic Textual Cultures Lab at the University of Victoria. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can work both independently and with a consultative research team.

The salary for this position will conform to standard Research Assistant rates, and the position will run January 2021 to 31 July 2021, with possibility for renewal.
